The Thirty Fourth Blog Of Trig - The Reality Of The 'Banking Crisis'

My dad read a letter in the Guardian to me the other day (3rd May 2012). The letter was from Labour MP Michael Meacher, describing the implications of the data revealed in the recent 'Sunday Times Rich List', and is duplicated on his blog. Mr Meacher describes how the richest 1000 people in Britain have increased their wealth by £155 Billion in the last three years, and goes on to link this with the actions of the UK Government to assist them in maintaining this. Rather than describe his letter, I will let you read it yourself. Enjoy:

Thank you Mr Meacher.

  1. I was amazed this week to hear from Michael Wood in History Prog "The Great British Story: a People's History" that the richest people in England are related to high-ranking members of the Norman Conquest. Seems that once a family has riches it carries those riches thoughout history. I presume that occurs in all countries - so maybe we have rich members of Atilla the Hun's family etc. ruling in the Steppes of Asia. Even revolutions don't change this as we have had plenty in England. The only way out of the system is through education being equal for everyone. Sadly, as an ex-grammar school pupil myself, it means totally abolishing the selective and private school systems. And that is the problem - we all defend the aspects of our past thus preventing aspirations for all in the future.
